Networking Academy Students Do It Again!

So what’s the secret?

As a proud sponsor of Skills Canada since 2002, Cisco is constantly delighted by the number of Networking Academy students bringing home medals year after year. 2007 saw this pattern continue with four of six medals - 2 Silver, 2 Bronze - which now sets the stage for future success through the clues presented by our most recent winners.
 
Two Secondary School Winners
Gurjit Bains of Waterloo Collegiate Institute (WCI) in Waterloo, Ontario and Joel Lamb of Miles Macdonell Collegiate (MMC) in Winnipeg, Manitoba took Silver and Bronze respectively in the Secondary School Division at the 2007 Skills Canada competition in Saskatoon.
 
"It’s the Networking Academy Program that provides the practical work where you get to understand the internet, routers and VLANs, says Gurjit Bains. It lets you step back and see how it really all works". Born in Kitchener, Ontario, 18-year-old Gurjit chose WCI "because it had the most programs available: Cisco CCNA 1 to 4, and IT Essentials 1 and 2". He took a fifth year to complete them all and graduated in June 2007. "Grade 12 is where he really got into computers, recalls Computer Engineering Teacher Ion Damian, Gurjit’s instructor at WCI. Now when he walks into the classroom, you think he’s the teacher, not me. He lectured more than I did last year". Ion also remembers Gurjit’s dogged determination at Skills Canada.
